my mom. This was to show there is no difference in the way they cover themselfs up. So instead of thinking a hijabi is oppressed, give her respect.
powerful.
Those who make judgements about a woman wearing a hijab, without knowing the circumstances, please take note. They are not necessarily oppressed!*
I’ve never understood why people [feminists/Christians/whoever] get so riled up about the hijab/niqab/etc, when modest dress, hair covering, etc is a part of many other religions and cultures. Maybe that’s because I grew up in a Catholic family and the image on the left was very familiar? I don’t know…
Tiny shout out: Akitron, Aut, bb. Thank you for making me more culturally aware, tolerant, and educated, one day at a time. <3
* - I don’t feel comfortable saying “they’re not oppressed” because there are definitely women wearing hijjabs who ARE oppressed, just as there are women in every culture, religion, and country who are oppressed in both visible and invisible ways. The how, why, and what of it varies, as do the symbols of their oppression. I wish people understood that [INSERT UNFAMILIAR RELIGIOUS/CULTURAL/ETC PRACTICE OR BEHAVIOR HERE] =/= oppression.
While the whole post is awesome, the stuff in bold is stuff of legendary truth. OMG, Autumn teaches me things every day and I feel less and less ignorant with everything she posts.
oh no
